- Robert D. Martin was born in Iowa City, Iowa in 1944. He graduated from Cornell University in 1966, and the University of Chicago Law School in 1969. From 1969-1978 he specialized in bankruptcy law at the firm of Ross & Stevens, S.C. in Madison, Wisconsin. In 1978 he was appointed Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Wisconsin, a position he continues to maintain [spring 2007]. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Martin has co-authored many books in the areas of bankruptcy and secured transactions, and has accepted the role of panelist or lecturer at bankruptcy seminars, conferences and meetings. He has served in many professional organizations, among them the American College of Bankruptcy, the National Bankruptcy Conference, and the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges (Board of Governors 1988-1991; Secretary, 1994; President, 1996)
